How to reconnect with the French? Emmanuel Macron will speak on the evening of April 17, with the aim of calming the social situation. Live from the Élysée, we find the journalist Anne Bourse.
While Emmanuel Macron must speak, opponents of pension reform are calling for a boycott and a rally, accusing the head of state of his contempt. What will Emmanuel Macron say this evening of Monday April 17? “This speech has just been recorded in Emmanuel Macron’s office. It barely lasts a quarter of an hour”reports journalist Anne Bourse, live from the Élysée Palace. “Two objectives for the president: to plan for the future, and to renew the link with the French in a very tense context”she continues.
“A new breath without changing policy”
The president’s entourage explains that he will notably address those who have felt “rushed” by the reform, regretting that no consensus has been reached. “Emmanuel Macron should also indicate his priorities: the meaning of work, the republican order, give perspectives on the daily concerns of the French”, such as health and school. But don’t expect big changes. “Emmanuel Macron is rather looking for a new breath without changing policy”concludes the journalist.
