The Italian city observes a day of national mourning, Wednesday October 4, the day after the tragedy which left at least 21 dead, including two children.

The question is on everyone’s lips in Venice, the day after the tragedy which cost the lives of at least 21 people, after a bus fell from a bridge around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday evening. The bus left out of its way, toppled over the guardrail before falling around ten meters and catching fire below.
Was the railing too old? Several motorists and technicians had already reported visible deterioration of certain elements of the bridge. “It is obvious that an old barrier, never maintained, not up to standard, rusty, could not withstand the impact of the bus“, comments Domenico Musicco, president of the Association of Victims of Street Accidents.
A driver described as “serious and experienced“
Other avenues are being studied. Video surveillance images rule out speeding. The hypothesis of driver discomfort remains favored. Aged 40, the driver was described by his colleagues as a driver “serious and experienced”. His autopsy is underway. The Venice public prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation into multiple road homicides.
