The first round of legislative elections will take place on June 12 and, in the Somme, the five outgoing deputies seek a new mandate and are campaigning, largely on what they have done since 2017. In the third constituency, which includes the entire maritime facade, Vimeu or even Ponthieu, the candidate Les Républicains, Emmanuel Maquet will try to keep his seat.
Elected for the first time in 2017, the former mayor of Mers les Bains therefore sat for 5 years in the ranks of the right-wing opposition where he most of the time adopted the positions of his political family. Emmanuel Maquet, for example, abstained during the vote on the climate law. The LRs had issued several criticisms of the text defended by the Samarian Minister for Ecological Transition, Barbara Pompili, believing that they did not want “a moralizing and punitive ecology.”
It is with this credo that Emmanuel Maquet also filed a bill in 2019 on the adaptation of areas threatened by the erosion of the coastline. Resuming and updating previous legislation, the Samarian defended “the maintenance of economic and human activities on the coast, despite its inexorable decline.” Emmanuel Maquet highlights the need to propose solutions so that the inhabitants of these sectors continue to live there.
Numerous interventions on wind energy
Another environmental subject on which Emmanuel Maquet has worked a lot: wind energy. He has thus intervened 23 times, in meetings or in committees on “the reasonable development of wind power.” In March 2019, he was appointed secretary of a commission of inquiry on renewable energies at the National Assembly. Six months of work to take stock of the cost, financing, economic impact and ecological interest of energies such as wind power.
Like other elected officials from Hauts-de-France, Emmanuel Maquet opposes further wind development in the region and particularly in the department of the Somme. “There are enough like that,” he said on France Bleu Picardie when starting the work of this commission of inquiry. Same opposition on offshore wind power and against the project of park off Mers les Bains and Le Tréport.
Facing him, Emmanuel Maquet will have the youngest candidate of the outgoing majority, Albane Wanking. The communist mayor of Woincourt, Arnaud Small will represent the united left, Michael Valet of Workers’ Struggle, Nicolas Lottinformer president of the association of hunters in the Baie de Somme is a candidate for the National Gathering, Francois Miramont of the Reconquest party, Frederic Devaux for the Animalist party, Marianne Finel KVD, David Mongin for the Independent Environmental Movement, Anabelle Ponsard the Patriots, Marine Massonneau without label.
