Chinese President XI Jinping arrived in France on Sunday May 5 for a two-day state visit. Overview of the issues of this visit.

Xi Jinping was welcomed by Gabriel Attal on Sunday May 5 on the tarmac of Orly airport. The Chinese president is in Paris to celebrate 60 years of diplomatic relations between France and China. On Monday, he will have meetings with Emmanuel Macron. A first formal day at the Élysée then at the Invalides before a visit, Tuesday, to the Hautes-Pyrénées for a more intimate lunch.

On the menu of discussions the situation in the Middle East but especially the war in Ukraine. A year ago, in China, Emmanuel Macron called on Xi Jinping to bring Russia to its senses. This new visit should be an opportunity to once again encourage his counterpart to distance himself from Vladimir Putin. Other topics of conversation: the climate emergency and economic issues. For the President of the Republic, it will be about defending the interests of France and Europe, particularly on the issue of electric vehicles.
