How can we get wolves and herds of men to coexist? The French government is trying to find the balance, with a wolf plan, unveiled Monday September 18.
Wolves are increasingly numerous in France: 25 recorded in 1999, compared to 1,004 wolves today. The wolf has colonized many territories. A video dating from 2022 attests in particular to the presence of the animal in Finistère, although it had not been seen in Brittany for more than a century. “Now it is present in 55 departments”indicates journalist Anthony Joly.

12,500 animals were victims of wolves in 2022. What does the government plan provide? First of all, “to facilitate the killing of wolves in the event of repeated attacks”, indicates the journalist. Breeders and shoemakers could be equipped with night sight glasses, which was requested by agricultural organizations. The plan also aims to improve the protection of herds and better compensate breeders who are victims of attacks.
