As Michel Barnier’s new government was announced yesterday, what is the French view of the new government composition? What are the expectations and concerns of citizens?
Barely appointed, the new government is already far from being unanimous. “This is not what France asked for (…) with a strengthening of the right. I think our president is making fun of us a little”says a customer in a market. In Aubagne, Bordeaux, Lyon or Toulouse, the first measures expected by the French concern purchasing power, particularly among the youngest: “Even I, working part-time, can’t support myself”explains a student.
67% of French people want the return of the ISF, according to a survey by Étude Elabe. However, a generalized tax increase is not desired: “The little money we can put aside goes (…) into taxes”comments a passerby in the street. The improvement of public services is also a major concern of the French, as well as the theme of security and immigration.
