The international community condemned the Russian offensive in Ukraine on Tuesday 22 February. Announcements of sanctions multiplied during the day. What are those pronounced by Europe?
Europe announced several sanctions against Russia on Tuesday, February 22. “These sanctions will first concern individuals, Russian parliamentarians, 351 deputies in total as well as military officials”, reports first of all the journalist Julien Gasparutto, of France Televisions Brussels. Sanctions have also been imposed on “companies located in the separatist region of Donbass, Europe will stop its imports to hit the local economy in the wallet”continues the journalist.
The European Union will also sanction Russian banks, “with the impossibility for Russia to access the European financial markets to refinance its debt”, explains Julien Gasparutto. Finally, Germany “suspended its authorization for the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, which was to supply the country with Russian gas in the coming months”, concludes the journalist. On the other hand, no personal sanction has been pronounced against Vladimir Putin, which would amount, according to Brussels, to “permanently cut the diplomatic channel with Russia”.
