We are not always aware of it, but we almost constantly live in noise. Whether it’s road or air traffic, public transport, neighbors’ footsteps echoing, the washing machine, the dog at the end of the street barking, poorly soundproofed classrooms, telephone conversations in open spaces , our environment is full of more or less loud, more or less aggressive and intrusive noises.
Beyond the inconvenience it causes, noise has very harmful effects on our health. It is responsible for hearing problems such as deafness and tinnitus, sleep problems and stress, and, what is less known, is that it is also responsible for cardiovascular pathologies.
So How to protect yourself from daily noise pollution?
Geraldine Mayr receives Laurent Droin, who is director of the CIDB (Noise Information Centre). He explains the different types of noise to which we are subjected, their consequences on our health and the means to protect ourselves as much as possible.
