In five years, the cards have been reshuffled in the National Assembly. The alliance of parties supporting Emmanuel Macron, gathered in the Together! coalition, lost its absolute majority to settle for a meager relative majority of 245 deputies, according to the final results of the second round of legislative elections, Sunday June 19.

In total, the Macronists lost 105 deputies in five years. The 52 constituencies won, particularly in certain right-wing strongholds, are struggling to compensate for the 157 others lost between 2017 and 2022, mainly to the benefit of the National Rally and Nupes.
The main opposition force in the National Assembly is now made up of the left-wing alliance, the Nupes, which won 133 seats, to which are added the 20 various left-wing deputies who will join their ranks. In total, the left lost only 13 of its 2017 constituencies, but managed the feat of keeping 60 and winning 93 more. The left is strengthening considerably in the east of Paris, in the inner suburbs and in the overseas territories.
Despite the tour de force of the left alliance, the most impressive progress is that made by the National Rally. The far-right party indeed goes from 8 deputies elected in 2017… to 89 in 2022! Marine Le Pen’s party appears to have shattered the glass ceiling in its strongholds in the northeastern, southeastern and southwestern quarters of France.
The Republicans and the UDI are losing ground. The right-wing parties see their number of deputies halved in five years. In detail, the Republicans and the UDI won only 9 constituencies and retained 55 others. But at the same time, the two parties lost 75 constituencies, particularly in central France and western Paris.
