More than a week after the tragedy that occurred in Crépol, in Drôme, the circumstances of the death of Thomas, 16, are still unclear. On the 19/20 set, Tuesday November 28, journalist Anaïs Crouts from the “True or false” unit looks back on the events.
A sequence broadcast in the show C à vous on France 5, Monday November 27, sparked controversy. In it, journalist Patrick Cohen asserts that in “at the end of the evening, around ten young people mingle with the 400 participants” and that these individuals who are not from the village are “came to have fun” And “to pick up girls”. These comments provoked the indignation of many Internet users on social networks, indicates journalist Anaïs Crouts of the “True or false” unit.
Two opposing scenarios
Some believe that the journalist did not mention several details, notably the fact that these young people who joined the party had weapons in their possession. So what exactly do we know about what happened? “More than a week after this tragedy, it is still difficult to unravel the exact scenario and reconstruct this evening”, says Anaïs Crouts. According to journalists’ investigations, two opposing scenarios exist. The first, which comes from the first testimonies of the participants in the evening, evokes a premeditated arrival of young people coming from a working-class district of Romans-sur-Isère, with the aim “to fight it out”. The second scenario is that of the nine suspects placed in police custody and describes a “altercation which would have degenerated into ultraviolence”. The latter would be due to a criticism made by a rugby player about the haircut of a young person placed in police custody.
