Faced with the main problem of the moment, the various candidates have imagined solutions ranging from the increase in the minimum wage to the reduction of employers’ charges, the supervision of energy prices or even the end of the audiovisual license fee.
To support the purchasing power of French women and men, the candidates’ programs are full of proposals. Everyone agrees on one point: wages must be increased. But to each his own tool. The left-wing candidates and Jean Lassalle want to upgrade the Smic and the minimum old age. The candidates on the right, they prefer to lower the employer’s charges. Some also promise to tax overtime, this is the case of Valérie Pécresse and Eric Zemmour. The candidate of the Reconquest! also wants to encourage companies to pay bonuses to employees, just like Emmanuel Macron.
To each his advantage
On the energy bill side, in the event of a crisis, many candidates want to regulate the prices of gas, electricity or fuel. Yannick Jadot prefers to pay an energy check of 400 euros to six million precarious French people. The environmentalist candidate also promises to lower VAT for public transport and organic food. Finally, for the difficult end of the month, some candidates are betting on their flagship measure: the abolition of the audiovisual license fee for Macron, Le Pen and Zemmour, or the supervision of basic necessities and the capping of bank charges for Jean-Luc Melenchon. Others, like Valérie Pécresse, want to revalue family allowances.
