The Apple TV series and the film by the two Daniels notably won the prizes for best drama series and best original screenplay at the Writers Guild of America Awards, an awards ceremony which took place on Sunday, a week before the Oscars.
Severance, scripted by Andrew Colville and relayed by Apple TV+, won two major awards: Best New Series and Best Drama Series. Directed by Ben Stiller, Severance takes place in the offices of Lumon Industries, where employees agree to be fitted with a microchip that separates their work life from their home life.
The film Everything Everywhere All at Once, written and directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Schneinert, meanwhile won the award for Best Original Screenplay. Favorite in the race for the Oscars, the duo imagined a crazy scenario, centered on a Chinese-American immigrant (Michelle Yeoh) leading a sad life, who enters a parallel universe multiverse to fulfill a decisive mission.
Other award-winning series or films include Woman Talking (best adapted screenplay), The White Lotus (best limited series), Better Call Saul (best drama episode for Plan and Execution), Last Week Tonight With John Oliver (best comedy series, variety talk show) or even Inside Amy Schumer (best comedy series, variety, sketch).
