A big comeback and an unchanged group. The coach of the France team Hervé Renard revealed, Thursday March 28, his group for the first qualifying matches for Euro 2025. The Blues record the return of their captain, Wendie Renard, absent from the last list for a thigh injury. After three months of convalescence, the Lyonnaise returned to the field in mid-March, for the quarter-final first leg of the Champions League against Benfica.

“We tend to realize that we miss people when they are absent, his absence was notable and important”explained Hervé Renard. “She has an exceptional personality, with a charisma that makes me think of the best players I’ve had in men’s football. Just the fact that she’s here means a lot to us.”

Hervé Renard also recalled a large majority of the players called up in February for the Final Four of the Nations League, including the young Parisian defender Thiniba Samoura. He will be able to count on two attackers in great shape, the Lyonnaises Kadidiatou Diani and Delphine Cascarino, each authors of a double on Wednesday evening in the quarter-final second leg of the Champions League.

But he decided to do without Amel Majri and Clara Mateo. “I think it’s important to alternate, not to always take the same players, it can be good for everyone”he justified himself. “It’s perhaps a little more difficult to watch your colleagues on TV, but maybe it can give you even more motivation. It’s a message, but it’s a message that needs to be heard. “

Semi-finalists of the last edition, the Bleues are starting their qualifying campaign for Euro 2025, which will be played in just over a year in Switzerland (July 2-27). Placed in group A3 with England, Sweden and Ireland, they receive the Irish in Metz on Friday April 5 for the first day, before traveling to Gothenburg on Tuesday April 9. Only the first two teams in the group will qualify for the tournament.
