Our guest Fabien Varet is an organic market gardener on 20 hectares, between Chartres and Orléans in the village of Louville-la-Chenard where 250 inhabitants live. With his team, he participates in sustainable agriculture by cultivating more than 80 references of fruits and vegetables as well as by working in a short circuit.
He developed the welcome on the farm by offering picking in the fields. He is proud to offer for sale a product that he has transformed from seed to finished product as well as meeting the end consumer.
The life of our guest has changed Monday, September 5 when his organic vegetable farm was devastated by a terrible tornado with hail. The considerable losses are estimated at more than €160,000, putting 8 people on technical unemployment.
Hail is not considered a natural disaster and subscribing to suitable insurance costs 3 times the annual profit of la Cueillette.
A mobilization has been launched so that its operation does not close.
Today we have as a guest a man who was born, raised and dedicated his life to agriculture. Passionate, he feeds people as much as the earth and he is always keen to offer organic and quality products.
=> To go further, our second guest Geneviève Chevassus, AMAP client, in the Auvergne Rhône-Alpes region in Chaponost.
