Weidemann, Canadian flag bearer at the closing ceremony

Long track speed skater Isabelle Weidemann will carry the Canadian flag at the closing ceremony of the Beijing Olympics on Sunday.

“It is an honor to be able to carry the Canadian flag at the closing ceremony,” said the 26-year-old athlete in a press release issued by the Canadian Olympic Committee. It’s a crazy end to an incredible week at the Olympics. I am truly grateful.”

The Ottawa native is one of two representatives of the maple leaf to have won three medals, the other being short track speed skater Steven Dubois. Both won a medal of each color.

Weidemann won his gold medal in the team pursuit, along with Valérie Maltais and Ivanie Blondin. The silver came in the 5,000 metres, while the bronze, Canada’s first ever at these Games, came in the 3,000 metres.
