He will do very hot at the Bell Center Thursday evening during this stop of the Trilogy Tour, which is made up of three flamboyant Latin artists. Calls me Mohamed Ali at TNM

PHOTO YANICK MACDONALD, PROVIDED BY TNM

Nine Afro-descendant performers share the stage in Calls me Mohamed Ali.

Nine Afro-descendant performers are back on stage this week to bring forth the rhythmic and scathing prose of Congolese playwright Dieudonné Niangouna. The play dazzled critics and the public during its appearance at the Festival TransAmérique then at the Théâtre de Quat’sous. Here she comes to the big stage of TNM, to denounce ordinary racism and the discrimination that still affects the black community. A favorite show, immense and essential, because it is still burning with current events.

At the Théâtre du Nouveau Monde from February 23 to March 3

The begetting : another look at motherhood

PHOTO PROVIDED BY THE UDEM GALLERY

Caroline Boileau, detail of These languages that women speak – unfathomable seas, troubled, troubled and disturbing waters (2021-2024). Watercolor, graphite, collage on paper.

For four years, artists Heidi Barkun, Caroline Boileau, Kimberley de Jong and Hermione Wiltshire reflected on motherhood, an experience marked by happiness in the collective imagination, but often preceded by forms of violence for the mother-to-be. From the rich and well-documented sharing of their visions was born the exhibition The begetting, presented as part of their residency at the McConnell Chair-University of Montreal. The artists offer, through watercolors, installations, videos and performances, a reflection on the violence of medically assisted procreation (Heidi Barkun), invasive medical interventions during childbirth and repair (Hermione Wiltshire), the gaze of the medicine on women’s bodies (Caroline Boileau) and the range of experiences surrounding parenthood (Kimberley de Jong). Moving performances by artists, who express their experiences through dance, are on the program, notably on February 24 at 2 p.m. and February 29 at 5:30 p.m.
