Cultural activities are abundant this weekend. Here are the suggestions from our journalists.
Adib Alkhalidey at the Théâtre Maisonneuve
Adib Alkhalidey has become the specialist in short tours whose advertising is mainly done through word of mouth. After the striking Quebecois Tabarnakwhich he presented between February 2022 and March 2023, he launched in January Whores and thieves, of which he will give the last four performances in Montreal between May 30 and June 7. The comedian then has a few other dates on the menu between now and the end of the summer, which means that as announced, he will only have presented this new show 30 times. “Don’t assume this is a marketing gimmick and then announce new dates, it won’t happen,” he even clarified on his social networks.

The Montreal Call
Half Moon Run is one of Montreal’s favorite bands. To give back a little affection to their city, the trio has transformed itself into festival organizer and is presenting for the first time this Thursday L’Appel Montréal, a one-day festival which takes place at the Olympic Park from 16 h 30. For this evening of non-stop music, two stages will host artists who “embody the spirit of the music scene and the Montreal community”, including Gabrielle Shonk, Ariane Roy, CRi (for a DJ set) , and headliners Men I Trust and the organizers themselves, Half Moon Run, who will close the event.

The multiple universes of QW4RTZ
From country to metal, pop and new age, there’s something for everyone at the show A Capella Hero from QW4RTZ, which stops at the MTelus on Friday. In this concert staged by Serge Postigo, the quartet, which recently paid tribute to the successes of Master key in a video with Arnaud Soly, presents both covers and humorous original songs, such as My beautiful brown saddle Or We’re angry (we’re not happy). Stromae, Elton John, Lizzo, Bryan Adams and Marie Denise Pelletier are among the artists that the members of QW4RTZ reinterpret in their own way. The tour continues throughout Quebec until February 2025.

Ten years of Gamelin Gardens
It’s this Thursday, and not last Thursday as we indicated last week in this section, that it’s happening: the launch of the 10e season of the Gamelin Gardens, with a solid program to launch the festivities (always free, it should be remembered). Kick-off at 5 p.m. at Place Émilie-Gamelin with the frenetic rhythms of Super Plage, combining French house pop and emerging Quebec music. This will be followed by the boundless energy of Parazar at 7 p.m., then, at 8:30 p.m., the highlight of the evening, with Sarahmée and her dancers, for a performance that promises to be energetic infused with afrobeat. Please note that snacks, urban agriculture and giant games are obviously back, until September 15, seven days a week and until 11 p.m.
