Rangers win 3-2 over Flyers

Vladimir Tarasenko scored at 2:32 in overtime on Wednesday to give the New York Rangers a 3-2 win over the Philadelphia Flyers.

Tarasenko grabbed the puck at center ice and scored with a wrist shot from the right circle.

He also took part in the goals of Mika Zibanejad and Chris Kreider.

New Yorkers deserved a second straight win, after a four-game losing streak.

Igor Shesterkin made 25 saves, seeing himself beaten by Owen Tippett and Scott Laughton.

The Rangers will host the Ottawa Senators on Thursday night.

Carter Hart blocked 22 shots for the Flyers, who have lost their last four games.

Fifth consecutive two-goal game for Connor McDavid

Connor McDavid scored twice in a fifth straight game on Wednesday, guiding the Edmonton Oilers to a 5-2 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs.

McDavid is the fifth player in NHL history to score two or more goals in five straight games.

Joe Malone (1921), Punch Broadbent (1922), Mario Lemieux (1989) and Alexander Mogilny (1993) did the same.

McDavid was also instrumental in Zach Hyman’s goal, which made it 3-1 late in the first period.

McDavid had scored at 3:49 and 13:53.

Kailer Yamamoto and Klim Kostin were the other scorers for the Oilers, who had lost their last two games.

Stuart Skinner made 26 saves, being foiled by David Kampf and Mitch Marner.

Ilya Samsonov stopped 27 shots for the Leafs, who were looking for a fourth straight win.

The Maple Leafs had been victorious in their last four games in Edmonton, leading 18-2 on goals.

Toronto will play Calgary on Thursday; the next day, the Oilers will host the Winnipeg Jets.

The Stars win 4-2 against the Coyotes

Defenseman Miro Heiskanen snapped a 19-game scoreless streak, scoring the game-winning goal for the Dallas Stars, who won 4-2 against the Arizona Coyotes on Wednesday.

Tyler Seguin scored two goals and an assist in the win. Roope Hintz scored the other Stars goal, while Jake Oettinger stopped 18 shots.

Clayton Keller and Barrett Hayton scored for the Coyotes, and Connor Ingram blocked 37 shots.

Heiskanen fired a point shot that snuck past Ingram 4:38 into the third period. It was his first goal since January 8.

Seguin scored on the power play early in the second period and scored the insurance goal with just under four minutes left in the game.

The Coyotes took a 2-0 lead 14 minutes into the game, with Juuso Valimaki assisting on both of his team’s goals.

Keller’s goal, his 25e of the season, was scored on the Coyotes’ only shot on goal in three power-play opportunities in the first period.

The Stars scored in the final two minutes of the first period, as well as the first two minutes of the second period to tie the game.

Devils win 7-5 over Avalanche

Dawson Mercer had a goal and three assists and Tomas Tatar had a goal and two assists as the New Jersey Devils beat the Colorado Avalanche 7-5 on Wednesday.

Nico Hischier and Miles Wood both had a goal and an assist, while Nathan Bastian, Ondrej Palat and Dougie Hamilton also scored for the Devils. Vitek Vanecek stopped 14 shots before being substituted early in the third period after allowing five goals. Akira Schmid blocked all 12 shots aimed at him.

Mercer has scored in seven straight games, scoring 10 in that streak.

The Devils’ new forward, Timo Meier, obtained in a trade with the Sharks on Monday, was not in uniform.

Nathan MacKinnon scored two goals and Mikko Rantanen scored his 41e net of the season for the Avalanche. Valeri Nichushkin and JT Compher also scored, while Artturi Lehkonen had two assists. Justus Annunen finished the game with 22 saves.

The offense dominated the second period. Hamilton and Wood scored twice in 2:40 to make it 5-1. The Avalanche responded with goals from Rantanen, MacKinnon and Compher in 2:04 action.

Mercer scored his 20e goal of the season. Hischier’s goal into an empty net completed the scoring with 1:14 to play.

Cale Makar was still not in uniform for the Avalanche.
