Red Wings win 3-1 over Jets

Sam Gagner got his 500and career point in the National Hockey League by scoring shorthanded on Wednesday, and the Detrois Red Wings won 3-1 over the Winnipeg Jets.

Gagner added a second empty-net goal to add to his memorable night. Michael Rasmussen scored at 9:11 of the third period to break a 1-1 tie and put the Wings ahead for good.

This victory will also have a particular flavor to the taste of head coach Jeff Blashill since it is his 200and in career.

Dylan Larkin contributed to the win with two assists as Thomas Greiss stopped 32 shots in front of the Red Wings net (28-34-9).

Mark Scheifele replied for the Jets (33-28-10) who suffered a third straight loss. Connor Hellebuyck blocked 32 shots.

The visitors led 1-0 after one period thanks to the effort of Dylan Larkin, who returned the puck to Gagner near the shorthanded net. The Jets managed to tie the score in the second period and everything held on until Rasmussen’s goal.

Winning sealed the Jets’ fate with his 11and of the season in an empty net with less than a minute to go.
