Artemi Panarin scores two goals in Rangers win

Artemi Panarin scored two goals and an assist, Igor Shesterkin made 30 saves and the New York Rangers beat the Columbus Blue Jackets 4-1 on Wednesday night.

Chris Kreider scored and added an assist, while Adam Fox also scored for the Rangers, who won their sixth straight home game. It was the 11e team victory in 12 outings.

Kreider and Panarin scored into an empty net in the final minute of play.

Kreider reached the 30-goal mark and Panarin increased his career high to 35 goals.

Cole Sillinger scored the Blue Jackets’ goal. Elvis Merzlikins finished the game with 26 saves.

The Rangers dominated the first period 17-9 in terms of shots.

Panarin opened the scoring at 7:17 of the second period, following a faceoff won by teammate Vincent Trocheck.

Fox doubled his team’s lead on the power play, with 5:41 remaining in the period. It was his 10e net of the countryside.

Fox is the first Rangers defenseman since Brian Leetch (four times from 2000 to 2004) to record three straight seasons of at least 10 goals.

Sillinger scored his team’s only goal at 3:24 in the third period.

The Oilers win 3-2 against the Blues

Connor McDavid scored the game-winning goal in overtime.

Connor McDavid scored in overtime to add to his two assists and the Edmonton Oilers beat the St. Louis Blues 3-2 on Wednesday.

McDavid beat goaltender Jordan Binnington in the final minute of overtime. The Oilers captain was on a 10-game goalless streak. However, he had collected 25 assists since his last goal.

Zach Hyman scored twice for the Oilers, who are 29-8-1 in their last 38 games.

Robert Thomas and Pavel Buchnevich scored for the Blues, who have lost three games in a row and five of their last six meetings.

Binnington stopped 31 shots in the loss, while Stuart Skinner blocked 30 of 31 shots aimed at him for the Oilers.

The Blues opened the scoring with their first shot of the match, at 2:19 of play.

Buchnevich then doubled his team’s lead at 4:49 of the game in the first period. It was a 24e goal this season for the Blues striker.

Hyman reduced the gap for the Oilers late in the period, during a power play.

The forward reached the 40-goal mark for the first time in his career when he tied the score 4:54 into the third period.
