Caleb Jones gives the Blackhawks victory
Caleb Jones scored at 1:21 in overtime and the Chicago Blackhawks defeated the Washington Capitals 5-4 on Wednesday.
The visitors’ Conor Sheary tied the score at 19:57 in the third period, but Jones ended the debate with a rebound. He scored his first goal of the season.
Alex DeBrincat (twice), MacKenzie Entwistle and Philipp Kurashev were the Hawks’ other scorers.
Patrick Kane registered a 700e pass and Marc-André Fleury stopped 42 shots.
Speaking to him in English, in a video message broadcast before the meeting, Martin Brodeur and Patrick Roy congratulated Fleury for reaching the milestone of 500 victories (last Thursday, in Montreal).
Brodeur (691 wins) and Roy (551) are the only other goalkeepers to have crossed this plateau.
Making his first game this season, Nicklas Backstrom took part in Alexander Ovechkin’s net in the second period.
Ovechkin tied Dave Andreychuk’s mark with a 247e goal on the power play.
Lars Eller and Daniel Sprong also hit home in the losing clan.
TJ Oshie had two assists and Ilya Samsonov made 23 saves.
