Flames thrash Blue Jackets 6-0

Matthew Tkachuk hit the target twice as the Calgary Flames set a team record 62 shots on Wednesday in a 6-0 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Jacob Markstrom made 23 saves for his 13th career shutout.

The Blue Jackets have lost their third straight game and fourth straight at home.

Elvis Merzlikins gave his best, stopping 56 shots.

Andrew Mangiapane, Mikael Backlund, Elias Lindholm and Erik Gudbranson also found the back of the net.

The Flames have signed a third victory in their last four meetings.

Johnny Gaudreau had three assists.

Markstrom is undefeated in four career starts against the Blue Jackets.

Meloche goal plays big part in Sharks win

Nicolas Meloche, center, scored his first NHL goal on Wednesday.

Nicolas Meloche’s first NHL goal was the key scorer on Wednesday as the San Jose Sharks beat the Capitals 4-1 in Washington.

The 24-year-old Quebecer gave his team a 2-0 lead at 3:58 in the second period.

Cleverly spotted at the top of the slot by Matt Nieto, Meloche hit the target with a wrist shot.

Noah Gregor, Jonathan Dahlen and Andrew Cogliano were the other scorers for the Sharks.

James Reimer made 32 saves, only being beaten by Daniel Sprong.

San Jose will also play in Florida and Carolina, by 1er February.

Ilya Samsonov blocked 26 shots for the Caps, who were shut out on four power plays.

The team has suffered eight losses in 11 games.

Dahlen’s father, Ulf, played for the Capitals for two seasons, from 1999 to 2001.

Matthews hands Leafs shootout win

Auston Matthews scored the game-winning shootout goal and the Toronto Maple Leafs defeated the Anaheim Ducks 4-3 on Wednesday.

Mitch Marner, William Nylander and John Tavares scored on power play.

Victorious goaltender Jack Campbell faced only 20 shots, while John Gibson saved 41 pucks.

Toronto has 34 power play goals this season. Going into the game, the Leafs were trailing only the Avalanche and Blues with 37 and 35 such goals, respectively.

Vinni Lettieri created the deadlock at 13:23 in the third period.

Sam Steel and Jakob Silfverberg had the other goals for the Ducks, who had won their last two games, in Tampa and Boston.

Strome scores hat trick in Blackhawks win

Dylan Strome scored a hat trick to help the Chicago Blackhawks win an 8-5 win over the Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday.

He completed the hat-trick with a second power play goal.

Alex DeBrincat scored twice for the Hawks, who led 4-0 in the first intermission.

The 25thand DeBrincat’s goal made it 6-3, midway through the third period.

Dominik Kubalik, Sam Lafferty and Brandon Hagel also scored for the Blackhawks, who had lost their last four games.

Robby Fabbri, Tyler Bertuzzi, Pius Suter, Moritz Seiter and Dylan Larkin fought back for the Red Wings.

The formation escaped a third game in a row.
