Mitch Marner celebrates his winning goal.

Mitch Marner scored with just 19 seconds left in overtime as the Maple Leafs beat the New York Rangers 3-2 on Wednesday night.

Marner blasted his way through three opposing players to score his 18e goal of the season, after the Leafs won the faceoff at the start of overtime.

Pontus Holmberg and Timothy Liljegren scored the other two goals for the Leafs, who are 30-11-8. Ilya Samsonov stopped 26 shots in the win.

For Rangers (26-14-8), Filip Chytil scored both goals for the team and Igor Shesterkin made 31 saves.

Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe retained the pairings of Marner and Auston Matthews, along with John Tavares and William Nylander for the game.

Keefe had reunited these duos after a poor first period on Monday against the New York Islanders.

The Rangers got a great chance to take a 3-1 lead on a power play early in the third period, but Chris Kreider missed what looked like a sure goal.

The Leafs then gained momentum during the period and eventually managed to beat Shesterkin thanks to Liljegren’s fourth goal of the season, with 4:11 to go in regulation.

After holding the puck for a long time, Necas hit the target from the top of the slot, using a wrist shot.

Drafted 12e in total in 2017, the 24-year-old Czech is one net away from a 20-goal debut season in the National League.

Sebastian Aho scored shorthanded for the Hurricanes, who won a third straight game.

Brent Burns scored the other goal for Carolina, who will host San Jose on Friday.

Wyatt Johnston and Jason Robertson fought back for the Stars, who also lost 3-2 in overtime Monday to Buffalo.
