Weather in Quebec: the flood is over, but still a little rain

A few millimeters of rain will still fall in Quebec on Saturday, after a long night of showers which caused several streams and rivers to overflow.

Nearly 40 mm of water has already fallen in the south of the province and in the St. Lawrence valley. There is only a small amount of rain left, around 5 mm, according to Environment Canada meteorologist Amélie Bertrand.

Several rivers overflowed during the night due to heavy rains, particularly in the Laurentians and Lanaudière, said the meteorologist.

The Quebec region is also under surveillance for overflows, for the moment, added Mme Bertrand. Nearly 50 mm of rain has fallen there since Thursday.

“We had fairly mild temperatures on Friday, but we are returning to seasonal temperatures this weekend,” according to the meteorologist’s forecast. Although the rain is expected to stop by Sunday, clouds will persist until early in the week.

A “cold front” has been hitting the west of the province since Friday. “It even snowed in Abitibi,” she explained. “However, no snow is expected in the St. Lawrence Valley,” she said.

Sunday will bring a slightly clearer sky, but still cloudy, accompanied by temperatures “in the low tens of degrees”, according to the meteorologist.
