The wearing of a mask will become compulsory once again outside in Spain, the government announced on Wednesday (December 22nd). In the country, the number of Covid-19 cases is exploding and has even reached a record of nearly 50,000 cases in 24 hours. The Moncloa Palace, seat of government, made the announcement in a statement just as a meeting is taking place between the Prime Minister, Pedro Sanchez, and the presidents of the autonomous regions of the country to discuss measures to be taken to slow down the propagation of the Omicron variant.

The text does not specify when this measure will take effect, but an extraordinary Council of Ministers was convened Thursday, December 23 to approve this decree-law, so that the wearing of the mask in the open air is effective for Christmas, which always gives rise to important gatherings. Another measure contained in the future decree: the validity period of the vaccination will be established from February 1, 2022 to nine months after the date of administration of the last dose.
