Even if there is no obligation, it is strongly advised to put on the mask in places where there are many people due to the increase in Covid-19 cases. This is the case at the Festival d’Avignon, which begins on Thursday 7 July.
Thursday July 7, in Avignon (Vaucluse), in the midst of songs and plays, an accessory is about to make its return to theaters: the mask. But the festival-goers do not intend to let him sabotage the party. “It’s not going to spoil the fun, it’s a precaution“, confides a woman. One of the performance halls of the Avignon festival preferred to take the lead by sending an email to all the spectators to recommend that they wear a mask during the sessions.
For now, the mask is not mandatory. The organizers will adapt according to the instructions of the prefecture. But according to the co-presidents of the Festival Off, the stakes are high for the troupes present. “A sick actor is not replaceable like in other professions, so inevitably, the show stops until the actor is cured. In the Off, where the companies are in self-production (…), it has potentially dramatic consequences“, warns Harold David, co-president of Avignon Festival & Companies.
