“We wanted to do better than against Agen, and we did it,” the declas of Biarritz after Colomiers

the Olympic Biarritz
has mastered his subject. After its bonus victory, the first of the season, 48-31 this Friday evening against Colomiers, the soundtrack joins the top 6
of the Pro D2 championship, but above all showed a much better face
that during the defeat against Agen
last week. Precise, even clinical, the Biarrots passed seven tries to the Colomiers players, reduced to 14 at the half-hour mark and which did not close the game, quite the contrary. A spectacular eleven-try match which turned to the advantage of Biarritz Olympique, now 4th, to whom it remains to confirm next Friday, October 28 on the side of Rouen.

They said :

Auguste Cadot, three quarters center of Biarritz:We settled some things during the week of training, we said to ourselves that it was absolutely necessary to finish the shots because I believe that against Agen, we arrive ten times in their 22, and we score only once. So we thought we were going to do better against Colomiers. And that’s what we did because we scored seven tries. We were more efficient, even if there are still things to settle. We scare ourselves a little stupidly, we wanted to keep the bonus but we lose it during the match before regaining it. Even if the score was acquired, that’s what scares us. Even when they received their red card, we just had to stay focused, because in Colomiers, they play very well, they like to play. So inevitably, we had to be attentive in defense, more than on slightly more direct teams. We tried to maintain that until the end, and it worked out pretty well.

Baptiste Fariscot, Biarritz winger:Steve Barry’s injury meant that I started the game on the right wing. This is my favorite wing. I tried to take advantage of the opportunity to make my place. I think everyone had a great game, whether it was us, the young people or even the old ones. Me, I had the chance to finish the shots for example. But there are a lot of things happening before, and I think it’s really a big game for the whole team and not just for the young people. Personally, I may have started the season not wanting to make mistakes, staying in the basics, but in the end it’s not my game. It’s true that I’ve been trying to show d other things, to be less academic.

I’m not going to sit three players, I’m not trying to change my game to look like someone else.

Some time ago, in rugby, it was rather the strongest who won, but that’s been changing for a few years. We see some players who manage to explode, even at the highest level. I’m talking about Capuozzo for example. This is the example I have in mind. But hey, I’ve often been told about my physique, but I’ve always been like that (1m81, 70kg, editor’s note). I’m not trying to change my game to look like someone else. Of course, I’m not going to sit three players, but rather avoid it. Same with the tackle, rather than trying to put in a big tackle, I’m going to go really low. So afterwards, we work with, with what we have. And I work with that.

Shaun Sowerby, Biarritz forwards coach:It’s a satisfying match, but not a reference match, not for me. 48 points is excellent against this opponent, but we conceded 31, there is still a very large margin. But it’s good ! The start was very good. What we tried to do was very good. There were moments of excitement, a little too much at the moment, but it will improve. But kudos to them. We put speed and aggressiveness into the approach. I am not talking about physical aggression with the intention of attacking the opponent, but of dominating the opponent. It was very interesting and we kept it until the end.

It’s not a reference match, because we know our potential

But for me it’s not a reference match, because we know our potential. Offensively, it was very good, in intensity too. But the room for improvement is, I think, still very important. We have this side where we are able to hurt the opponent very badly, but where we are always given the opportunity to get back into the game. That’s where we’re going to progress.
