“We have only one vocation, one desire, which is that Michel Barnier’s government can succeed for France. But to succeed we must know which clear line, which red lines we can commit to,” declared Prisca Thevenot, Ensemble pour la République MP for Hauts-de-Seine, on franceinfo on Tuesday 17 September, as Michel Barnier continued consultations for the formation of his government.

This reaction comes after a message sent by Gabriel Attal to the members of the group Ensemble pour la République of which he is the president. He asks for a clarification of “the political line” to determine “participation” from Macronists to Michel Barnier’s government.

On tax increases “There are still questions” and on “AME (state medical aid), we need clarification, and so indeed on these subjects, there have been discussions, but questions remain unanswered” on the direction that Prime Minister Michel Barnier will take. “This is the reason why the president of the Ensemble pour la République group, Gabriel Attal, asked to be received by the Prime Minister with a delegation to clarify these issues together and work on the line, the projects.”

Do you expect Michel Barnier to renounce any tax increases, including for the richest? Prisca Thevenot answers this question by asking another one: “What tax increase are we talking about? Should we come and fight against the rent effects? On that we agree, but when I hear talk of raising additional taxes on the wealthiest. Who are they?” asks the Hauts-de-Seine MP. She denounces “a tax burden which is already very high on all French households, I am not convinced that this is a solution.” On the other hand, she believes “that we can tax super profits.”
