Some Internet users point to the responsibility of the American research program HAARP in the disaster, others evoke the transformation of Cristiano Ronaldo’s hotel into a reception center, finally false images are supposed to show the collapse of a building in Casablanca .
The responsibility of the HAARP project, a building which collapses killing its inhabitants in Casablanca, Cristiano Ronaldo who makes his hotel available to the victims… As after every natural disaster, several false information has been circulating on social networks since the earthquake which struck the south of Morocco without the night of Friday September 8 to Saturday September 9. The death toll from this tragedy amounts to more than 2,800 deaths, according to a provisional report given Monday, September 11 in the evening.
1 The HAARP project did not cause the earthquake
Several Internet users say they are intrigued by videos showing sudden, blue lights splitting the dark sky just before the earthquake, and they conclude that the earthquake was caused by the Americans through their project to research HAARP. “How many times have I said that HAARP is very active”writes a user of Xformerly Twitter. “Videos show lightning strikes the night before the earthquake, which are not normal in earthquakes, but still occur in HAARP operations”assures another.

But it’s wrong. The HAARP project they are targeting is a US research program, initially launched by the US military but now continued by academics in Alaska. He is interested in the ionosphere, that is to say he seeks to understand how the upper layer of the atmosphere is influenced by solar activity and uses a field of radio antennas for this.
Due to its former ties to the US military, the program is regularly targeted by conspiracy theories. Sometimes accused of changing the climate, sometimes of causing earthquakes, as during the very deadly earthquake in Turkey and Syria in February 2023. At the time, Jessica Matthews, the head of the HAARP program, assured AFP that “HAARP site research equipment cannot create or amplify natural disasters”. Moreover, if human activity can have the consequence of causing an earthquake, it is not possible to trigger one at a precise moment, as seismologists explain at 20 minutes .
As for the bluish lights, they are probably seismic lights. It happens that seismic faults charge the atmosphere with electricity and this causes false polar auroras.
2 In Casablanca, this building did not collapse killing its inhabitants
Several false images are also circulating on social networks, including the video of a building collapsing in Casablanca. It is accompanied by this text: “A building collapses without leaving any chance for its inhabitants to escape.” The images were broadcast on French television.

But in the comments, several Internet users claim that the images are old. And in fact, by simply searching for “Casablanca building collapse” on Google, we come across this same video, published three years ago, in 2020. At the time, the Moroccan media echoed the collapse of this dilapidated house from which the inhabitants had all been evacuated. There were therefore no victims.
3 Cristiano Ronaldo did not make his hotel available to the victims
Since the earthquake, several media, notably sports but also Le Figaroclaimed that international footballer Cristiano Ronaldo had made his four-star hotel in Marrakech available to the victims. “Frankly, it was a very, very, very good gesture that he made”comments a TikToker in a video.

But this too is false information. THE “very very very good gesture” is a very, very, very beautiful fable. The Pestana CR7 hotel in Marrakech denied this to several media, including Checknews from Releaseensuring that all hotel guests had made a reservation.
The false information comes from the Spanish newspaper Marca, in an article published on Saturday. The site seems to have over-interpreted the testimony of a tourist who said, on Spanish television, that she had found refuge in this hotel. But it’s not because this woman went to this hotel that it was transformed into a reception center for victims.
