“We police officers took it as a slap in the face,” reacts the SGP Police-FO union

“We police officers took it as a slap in the face because every time the Earth Uprisings move, there are scuffles with police officers and gendarmes who are injured”reacted Thursday, November 9 on franceinfo Jean-Christophe Couvy, national secretary SGP Police-FO, after the cancellation by the Council of State of the collective Les Uprisings of the Earth.

The government announced the dissolution of the Earth Uprisings by a decree of June 21. This dissolution was suspended by an interim order in August but when the case was examined on its merits by the Council of State in October, the public rapporteur ruled in favor of the dissolution. The decision of the Council of State, against the advice of its rapporteur, therefore constitutes a surprise.

“This decision is really strange. The next victims will also be police officers and gendarmes and we will see if it is a so-called pacifist movement”continued Jean-Christophe Couvy. “At each demonstration we are faced with increasingly radicalized people who are ready to do anything”castigated the trade unionist. “We take note” of this decision. “We will see each other again in a future event” and or “unfortunately, there will be injured police officers and gendarmes”.

The Minister of the Interior criticized the collective for“to call” and of “participate” to violence. He personally initiated the dissolution procedure on March 28, a few days after the violent clashes between gendarmes and opponents of the Sainte-Soline water reservoirs.
