“We must unite against racism and anti-Semitism”declared Jean-Luc Mélenchon to the political service of franceinfo, Saturday August 24, after the fire in front of the synagogue of La Grande-Motte.

The leader of La France Insoumise is outraged by his political opponents’ accusations of stirring up anti-Semitism. “It is hateful and insulting. IThere are no words to express the cowardice of such an attitude.”he laments on the sidelines of the AMFIS, the movement’s summer universities.

Jean-Luc Mélenchon clarifies: “There are in me, in my history, in my surroundings, in my way of life, in the actions that I have taken, absolute limits which are those of reality to slander.” And to conclude, “The day you need us, you will be happy to find us to fight with you, so that’s enough!”

Earlier in the day, two vehicles were set on fire in front of the synagogue in La Grande-Motte, in Hérault. The only person injured was a municipal police officer, who was slightly injured after the blast of a gas cylinder. A suspect was filmed by video surveillance displaying a Palestinian flag. The perpetrator is still being sought. The Pnat has opened an investigation into attempted terrorist assassinations.
