The debate is recurrent and returns to each presidential election as well as to each ministerial reshuffle. Should a digital ministry be created? Currently, the French government has a State Secretariat in charge of Digital Affairs, attached to the Ministry of the Economy.

However, for some players in the sector, this simple state secretariat is no longer sufficient. “Today, digital is something that goes far beyond the principles of economics“, estimates Quentin Adam, leader of the company Clever Cloud. The entrepreneur is co-signatory, along with 80 entrepreneurs and digital professionals, of a call for the creation of a full-service ministry, on the Tribune .
“We must look at the evolution of digital as something plural to bring a vision of a digital transition and not be caught in the face of the societal upheaval of digital“, adds the entrepreneur. Unlike the Secretary of State, the Minister can sit on all the Councils of Ministers. He has an appropriate budget and increased power.
“In Italy you have a Ministry of Technological Innovation and Digital Transition. In Estonia, this is also the caseexplains Ophélie Coelho, researcher and specialist in digital geopolitics. It is a loss for us to consider digital as an accessory when today it has a major place in our society.”
For the moment, nothing like this has been publicly mentioned by Emmanuel Macron. As for the current Secretary of State, Cédric O, he has announced that he is leaving politics.
