“We must not disarm Israel,” declares Yaël Braun-Pivet after Emmanuel Macron’s remarks

The President of the National Assembly declared on Sunday that there would be “no special moment” at the Palais-Bourbon in memory of October 7.

His position denotes that of the head of state. The President of the National Assembly, Yaël Braun-Pivet, estimated on Sunday October 6 that it was not necessary “disarm” Israel, in reaction to Emmanuel Macron’s declarations calling for an end to deliveries of weapons used in Gaza. While refusing to “comment” the words of the President of the Republic, Yaël Braun-Pivet estimated on BFMTV that Israel was “faced with attacks that call into question its existence”on the eve of the anniversary of the attacks of October 7, 2023.

“Everyone is doing their utmost to ensure that there is finally a ceasefire. But it is clear that today the refusal of the ceasefire comes from Hamas (.. .) And so unfortunately, we must not disarm Israel in these circumstances”insisted the President of the National Assembly. “But that does not mean that we should not at the same time make maximum efforts to spare civilian populations”added the Ensemble pour la République (Renaissance) MP.

Yaël Braun-Pivet also announced that there would be no “no particular moment” to the Assembly in memory of October 7 (minute of silence, tribute…), because the lower house does not mark anniversaries.

Questioned on France Inter on the subject, government spokesperson Maud Bregeon defended the President of the Republic: “We cannot accuse the President of the Republic of not being on the side of Israel. He is in his role when he calls for de-escalation and when he always places himself on the side of diplomacy.”.

The rebellious deputy Eric Coquerel, guest of the “Grand Jury” for RTL, M6, Public Senate and Le Figarohe judged “late” the exit of Emmanuel Macron. “We really had to stop arming Israel a long time ago, at least on all the weapons used for the ongoing genocide in Gaza”he said. “I think we should have summoned at least the Israeli ambassador” in France, he added.
