“We are going to climb back up, ensure that solidarity can be expressed in the department and more broadly”, declares Henriette Steinberg, general secretary of Secours populaire, after the burglary of a federation warehouse in Isère in Échirolles, on the night of Saturday December 23 to Sunday December 24. The association filed a complaint with the Grenoble police station and deplores damage of at least 300,000 euros.
It is one of the most “important and old” of the Secours populaire network, indicates Henriette Steinberg. Henriette Steinberg says share “anger” of the secretary general of Secours populaire in Isère and understand that he is anxious. She calls for “a very broad outpouring of solidarity. We must mobilize again to have the essential products and be able to help people in great difficulty”. The branch in Échirolles supports nearly 30,000 people.
“We’re pretty sure it’s going to be very well heard in the country.”, assures Henriette Steiberg, confidently. According to her, “It’s not a burglary at all.”, as Secours populaire and other associations have already been able to experience. Henriette Steiberg speaks of “a sponsored act”, “This is not acceptable and those who place this type of order must understand that their place is in prison. This is not at all an ordinary thing, if I may say so”.
“Lowering the curtain is not acceptable”
Of the “acts of this nature”that “further strengthens our energy”assures the general secretary of Secours populaire, determined: “We will not accept. Just the idea that we can lower the curtain is not acceptable. The situation in the country is such that there is an absolute need for Popular Relief.”
For the future, Henriette Steinberg plans to strengthen security in the association’s branches: “We have to look at what the security system is, call on professionals to have rapid information when something happens in this or that place”. To do this, resources are needed, and the general secretary of Secours populaire is therefore calling again “to solidarity”.
