The day after the announcement of the indictment of the mayor of Nazelles-Négron, Thierry Chattelier, for rape of minors, his lawyer took the floor to defend the interests of his client. Master Bertrand Ritouret assures that the elected official – who denies the facts – “does not understand what is falling on him“.
“I don’t understand why we are not more careful. We are in systems where we cast shame on certain people, people who have never been talked about before“, said the lawyer. “We should exercise caution, moderation, especially when we have someone who disputes the facts, when we do not have a solid case. We must avoid going headlong. These are statements that have been made by only a few people and not as many as we would like to describe. When you have welcomed dozens of people and these people tell me “we don’t understand, we have never been concerned”, we can ask ourselves questions. The elements given by my client are entirely plausible, coherent and credible.“
The investigation started, according to AFP, following a report from the Department of Indre-et-Loire. It is a young minor girl, placed with the Chatellier couple, who declared to the community that she had been the victim of acts of a sexual nature on the part of the elected official.
