The Party for Freedom, Geert Wilders’ far-right party, came out on top in the Dutch legislative elections on Wednesday, November 22. What did the moderates miss that caused more and more people to move towards this type of leader? “Everything. We missed everything. I would like us to realize the gravity of the moment we are going through. The European Union is facing immense crises, we have war which has returned on our territory. We have never needed the European Union so much and election after election, we see the far right achieving immense successes”explains MEP (Public Square) Raphaël Glucksmann, guest of “4 Vérités”, Thursday November 23.

The EU “is in external and internal danger”

“Mr Wilders campaigned not only against Muslims, against immigration, but also against the European Green Deal, the ecological transition, and for a referendum to leave the Netherlands from the European Union”, notes the MEP. Is the European Union in mortal danger? “It is in external and internal danger. There is a combination of threats that we have surely never seen in our European history”he explains, noting: “Europe is a geopolitical dwarf”.
