This Sunday, June 19, the second round of the 2022 legislative elections took place. A stage that was fatal to many ministers of the government formed by Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne a few weeks ago. Three women are going to pack their bags!
First of all, there was the Secretary of State for the Sea, Justine Benin, who was beaten in the 2nd constituency of Guadeloupe with 41.35% of the vote. She comes behind Christian Baptiste (DVG), supported by Nupes (The New People’s Ecological and Social Union, editor’s note), elected with 58.65% of the vote. Same fate for the Minister of Ecological Transition, Amélie de Montchalin in Essonne. She was beaten (with 47.3% of the vote) by Jérôme Guedj, elected socialist under the colors of Nupes (53.7%). Brigitte Bourguignon, the Minister of Health, was a candidate in the 6th constituency of Pas-de-Calais. She was beaten by Christine Engrand, candidate of the National Rally. And it was played with only 56 votes…
Two heavyweights in Emmanuel Macron’s entourage failed to get elected. Richard Ferrand, president of the outgoing National Assembly, was defeated in the 6th constituency of Finistère, winning 49.15% of the vote, according to the final results. It was dominated by Mélanie Thomin (Nupes), elected with 50.85 votes. Christophe Castaner, the boss of the LREM deputies in the National Assembly loses his seat in the second constituency of the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, with 48.51% of the vote. He was preceded by Léo Walter (51.49%), from Nupes, according to the official results published by the Ministry of the Interior.
A total of 12 ministers were elected after the second round of legislative elections: Elisabeth Borne, Gérald Darmanin, Damien Abad, Marc Fesneau, Yaël Braun-Pivet, Franck Riester, Stanislas Guerini, Olivia Grégoire, Olivier Dussopt, Gabriel Attal, Olivier Véran and Clément Beaune.
