Like his father Lilian, committed to education against racism, Marcus Thuram did not mince his words in the face of the rise of the National Rally during the European elections, at a press conference on Saturday June 15. “The situation is sad, very serioussaid the Inter Milan player. I learned this after the match against Canada, we were all a little shocked in the locker room. It’s the sad truth. Messages are conveyed every day to help this party pass, but as Ousmane said [Dembélé], you have to go vote. We have to fight every day so that this does not happen again and that the RN does not pass”.

Marcus Thuram is thus the first player on the French team to openly take a stand against the far-right party, after calls to vote from Ousmane Dembélé, Olivier Giroud and Benjamin Pavard. “In the French team, everyone, I hope, shares the same opinion as me. I have no doubt. I understand that certain players come to tell you to go and vote, but I think that that is not enough “We must explain how we got here, and the seriousness of the situation.”said the attacker.

Asked about a possible collective initiative, Marcus Thuram responded in the negative. “Everyone does as they feel. Some are more modest. I am here because, thanks to my father, I have mastered this situation to be able to talk about it, he reacted. I don’t think it’s very complicated to explain this. It comes from my personality and my upbringing. I know a lot of people follow me on social media and I feel obligated to get a message out.”
