“We have the impression that everyone is waiting for the miracle solution and the ideal age verification system that would be 100% reliable, but that does not exist”, responds Wednesday April 10 on franceinfo Justine Atlan about pornographic sites. The general director of the e-Enfance association, an association for the protection of children on the Internet, reacts as the bill to secure the Internet completes its parliamentary journey in the Assembly this Wednesday.

This bill notably proposes an “anti-scam” filter on sites identified as malicious, an offense of online contempt or even an administrative blocking of pornographic sites. A measure which does not go far enough for child protection associations, particularly with regard to the question of verifying the age of Internet users, which has still not been resolved.

“Illegal” sites

For Justine Atlan, “we’re going in circles with this age verification thing”. She regrets that “no one wants to take responsibility for forcing him”. For the general director, “it gives the impression that this text responds to what pornographic sites have been asking for years”. She recalls that these sites “refuse to apply the law” since pornographic content platforms “have been legally obliged since 2020 to set up an age verification system. So in reality they have been illegal for four years”.

Justine Atlan regrets this situation since “this shifts responsibility to Arcom which must issue an opinion with the CNIL”. “All this does is postpone responsibilities”she adds “and meanwhile, millions of minors have been exposed to pornographic content for decades since they were very young”.

She assures her, the miracle solution does not exist but recalls that proposals have been made in recent years: “identity card, credit card, biometrics, trusted third party… We could at least do a test period, put them up on porn sites and see which ones fit best.”
