“We have restored freedom”, rejoices the vice-president National Rally of the National Assembly Sébastien Chenu, Wednesday July 13 on franceinfo, after article 2 of the health bill was challenged by majority opposition, Tuesday evening. The text provided for the possibility of reinstating a health pass at the borders in the event of a worsening of the health situation linked to Covid-19.

The article in question was rejected thanks to a joint vote of the oppositions (RN, LR and Nupes), all against the health pass. The government was able to pass what was left of the bill, by 221 votes to 187. “The opposition did its job and the majority being relative, it could not block the opposition“, summarizes Sébastien Chenu. The government “can no longer do everything like a bulldozer, as it did the previous five years”.

“This text comes to say to the government ‘You have taken the wrong road. You have made a mistake. We are not going to start again’.”

However, he denies any alliance between the three forces: “On the texts, the deputies do not decide according to what the others do, but according to what they defend” he explains. “When the majority passes article 1, for example, it has a majority to do so. It therefore has the voices of rebellious France and the voices of the Republicans.” He also explains that there were no discussions or agreement between the oppositions: “It is not a question of joining forces for or against a text. It is a question of voting according to the convictions and ideas that we defend”.

This new dynamic fills the vice-president of the Palais Bourbon with optimism, who “sees” from now on “to draw tomorrow a majority to reintegrate caregivers“suspended for refusing to be vaccinated, and he walks away “congratulates”.
