“We have reached levels of violence, particularly with the use of firearms, in the urban area.” and this “becoming extremely worrying”deplores Monday August 26 on France Bleu Isère Amandine Demore, PCF mayor of Échirolles, while the Grenoble conurbation has experienced several shootings in recent weeks. Mid-August, the Grenoble prosecutor Eric Vaillant denounced a “intense gang warfare” around drug trafficking.

In less than a month, seven shootings have occurred in the Grenoble metropolitan area. Faced with this situation, Amandine Demore wrote to the President of the Republic last Friday to denounce the“dismal failure” of the “policy of combating trafficking and its nuisances conducted for at least 30 years”. On Monday, she explained to France Bleu Isère that she was asking “the return of community policing, abolished by Nicolas Sarkozy and which is today cruelly lacking in the country”. Amandine Demore also claims “a fully-fledged police station” in order to have “24-hour police presence.

The mayor of Échirolles regrets that the actions implemented by the State are “limited in time” and advocates for more sustainable measures. While she welcomes the arrival of reinforcements from the CRS 83 of the Lyon metropolitan area, she regrets that these agents will not remain “only a short time on the territory”. “I expect more sustainable solutions”she says. Amandine Demore specifies that her municipality has “20 policemen” municipal, but considers that it is not up to the municipality to “to compensate for the State’s shortcomings on security issues”which is also from “the skill” of the state. “Municipalities cannot do things in place of the State all the time”she insists.

Amandine Demore also assures that “the answer” to the issue of drug trafficking “is not only safe” and must be taken “in its entirety”. If she recognizes that the “‘Place Net’ operations help to destabilize drug trafficking”the elected official considers that this “does not eradicate it permanently.” She therefore calls on the authorities to ask themselves other questions, in order to know, for example, “why do our fellow citizens consume so many narcotics”“why they are running towards more and more dangerous and strong products.” “It’s a matter of public health”she says.
