Teacher unions are standing up against the government’s management of the Covid-19 epidemic in schools. “There are announcements which follow one another every day and a lack of personnel while the contaminations multiply”, laments Stéphane Crochet, general secretary of the teaching union SE-Unsa, Friday January 7 on franceinfo. The union, like the Snuipp-FSU, calls for a strike in the National Education Thursday, January 13, to have “the conditions of a safe school under Omicron”.

“We tried to express it anyway but we weren’t heard”, annoys the representative, who explains that this is why the strike was decided. “On the ground, the tension is extremely high”, Stéphane Crochet alarmed. If he wants the unions to withdraw their strike call, “the government must undertake to work differently, to lower the pressure”, estimates Stéphane Crochet. He calls on the government to “provide protective equipment while it is a question of surgical masks for the end of January” and claims “a health protocol that is tenable and applicable”.

“We have some of the students in schools and others who are at home. I do not understand why the minister is saying that we can provide everything, face-to-face education and distance education when we lack professors “, he is indignant. In this context, Stéphane Crochet believes that the “level of disorganization would require at least on the part of the government that there is humility so that we become one body together and not that we discover every day new announcements”.
