She is an experienced police commander who takes the stand. Twenty years she has been dealing with child crime but now, she says, “we have never seen so many videos produced by an individual”. The testimony of this investigator took place during the first day of an almost unprecedented trial in Paris: that of a 56-year-old Frenchman, tried for dozens of sexual assaults and rapes on young boys in Malaysia.

Twenty-five victims have been identified, knowing that another investigation is underway for acts committed in particular in Thailand. The man spent almost 30 years in Southeast Asia. 100,000 recordings were found on the hard drives of the accused who almost systematically filmed his relationships with boys. The investigator says that her colleagues had to watch 5,000 hours of images, sometimes the same scenes several times, to try to identify the victims, using tattoos for example.

“Disgusting” scenes

It details the typical schedule of the French teacher who leaves Singapore at the weekend for Malaysia where he receives boys, in his hotel room, from Friday evening, every two hours from two to six children at the same time. Scenes “so sickening”she explains that the police officers had to take breaks of two or three weeks to clear their minds “so to speak”, she adds, since it was to work on other child crime cases.

The president of the court has no other choice than to list the practices, priced but forced on exhausted children. Twenty-five victims in this case but how many in total? “At least 70”, indicates the investigator. Investigators have not yet even been able to view his videos in Sri Lanka, the Philippines or Singapore.
