“We have never disputed the fact that acts could be of a terrorist nature”, declared Saturday December 2 on France Inter Jean-Luc Mélenchon. The position of La France insoumise (LFI) on the October 7 attack carried out by Hamas in Israel was strongly criticized, which exacerbated the divisions within La France insoumise. Jean-Luc Mélenchon recognizes that “in the attack of October 7 there are terrorist acts”.

He also explains that he prefers to talk about war crimes, “when we talk about terrorism, about an organization whose aim is terrorism, then we move into another register of vocabulary. It is no longer law and international law, it is the struggle of good against evil “. He evokes the “clash of civilizations which Mr. Netanyahu claims”adding that it is “the vocabulary I don’t want to use, so I’m talking about war crimes” and specifies that “all war crimes must be punished”.

About the publication of François Ruffin in The world explaining that the “word does not live up to the seriousness of the events”Jean-Luc Mélenchon responds that “These words belong to him and it is not my opinion”, “entering the war against terrorism means accepting a vocabulary that is not ours and which distances us from something that is very specific, war crimes and the convening of the International Criminal Court [CPI].”
