L’Oréal is going green. Both on the production and consumption side. “We have been working to reduce our energy consumption for more than 15 years”, assures Tuesday, October 11 on franceinfo Hervé Navellou, the general manager of L’Oréal France while France is in the midst of an energy crisis. It goes even further: “We have shown at L’Oréal that we can decorrelate the growth of carbon emissions.”
“We have succeeded in reducing our carbon emissions by 87% since 2005, while our production has increased by 40%.”

The Managing Director of L’Oréal France explains his point: “We are not reacting to this energy shortage. We have been working to reduce our energy consumption for more than 15 years. We have 11 L’Oréal production plants in France. 93% of the energy they use is already renewable. Seven of our factories in France are “carbon neutral” without compensation. And finally six of our factories are “water loop”, that is to say that the water used is reprocessed, recycled and reused in a loop. So they no longer consume water”.
“We encourage our consumers to use our products in a more virtuous way.”

The group has “engaged extensive programs for more responsible consumption and for ourselves to reduce our environmental impact”. To do this, the company has invested in innovation to – for example – develop “a new hair mask that can be used without water or solid shampoos that have a very reduced environmental impact”, he points out. Hervé Navellou knows that selling eco-responsible products is a winning bet for the company. “All this is starting and, I am sure, will progress in the coming months”.
