“We don’t want to see people waiting whole hours, maybe even whole days, in the emergency room”, worries this Friday on franceinfo the president of the French Hospital Federation Frédéric Valletoux. According to him, “120 to 130 emergency services” are already “forced to reduce sail” due to lack of personnel this spring. “What’s it going to be like this summer?”he warns that the period is traditionally the most tense of the year with the holidays. “It will probably be the most difficult summer we have ever known. We have to find solutions quickly.”

For two months, the French Hospital Federation has been pleading for “solidarity between all health professionals”explains Frédéric Valletoux. “Public, private, whatever the status, we must stick together and think about organizing our holidays together, territory by territory, metropolis by metropolis, city by city, so that the pressure does not rest only on the services of ’emergency.” According to him, the only solution which consists in bringing foreign doctors to France cannot be enough.

“We are not going to bring in entire planes to fill our emergency services.”

In addition, and while Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne confirmed that health would be one of the priorities of the new five-year term, Frédérique Valletoux is asking for new salary increases. “to keep those who work today at the public hospital” and for “attracting younger generations to these arduous, difficult professions” and sometimes “two to three times less well paid than in the private sector.”

“We must review the entire health system and continue to improve the very low remuneration”estimates the president of the Hospital Federation of France. “We have to go much further than the Ségur de la santé in the coming months. But before this major project, there is the urgency of this summer. If we do not organize it in the coming weeks, we will have much greater tensions than today.”
