“We don’t have any nauseating methods”responds LFI MP Mathilde Panot the day after the press conference of the purged rebels. She was the guest of the show Ma France on France Bleu on Tuesday July 2.
Outgoing La France Insoumise MPs Alexis Corbière and Danielle Simonnet held a press conference on Monday evening to ask the LFI candidates nominated in their place to withdraw in their favour. Raquel Garrido, also present, declared herself ready to withdraw in exchange, in favour of the NFP candidate in her constituency. “It’s quite offbeat for the moment, reacts Mathilde Panotsince we are only talking about two constituencies where there will actually be two second rounds with candidates who both claim to be on the left.”
She recalls that “It’s the first time in history that we’ve managed to have single candidates in the first round. The Popular Front had single candidates in the second round. So there are dissenters.” But according to her, “Given what is at stake in this election and with zero risk to the National Rally, I believe that this is not the primary issue in this election. It will be a left-wing elected official who will emerge from the ballot boxes and the voters will decide.”
Accused by the purged candidates of nauseating methods at LFI, Mathilde Panot retorts: “We don’t have any nauseating methods, if you are in the electoral committee and you have to invest people, you generally choose people who will then sit in your group”. She specifies that “It’s not being angry, it’s not nauseating methods, it’s just the sovereignty over the investiture that we have”.
