“The reason behind the vote of my colleagues is: Was it intentional on Stalin’s part to cause a famine? Who is the reason for a genocide… There is a debate among historians”, explained Fabien Roussel. “We don’t want to settle this debate,” he said. And to hammer: “There is this debate, it is strong.” “We refuse to contribute to the politicization of issues of memory and history”had explained the deputy Jean-Paul Lecoq at the time of the adoption of the resolution.
