“There is no plan to regulate doctors today”, said Thursday February 22 on France Bleu Mayenne Catherine Vautrin, Minister of Labor, Health and Solidarity. To fight against medical deserts, several elected officials are calling for regulation of the installation of doctors. But Catherine Vautrin is opposed to this project.
The new minister insists that the government has not “no intention to regulate” the installation of doctors. She highlights the fact that sometimes “doctors want to work in a group, or in a certain location” and therefore calls for caution. “Sometimes the cure can be worse than the disease”warns Catherine Vautrin.
She explains that the executive works today rather “on the attractiveness of the profession”. “One of our first subjects is to train these doctors”, she insists. The Minister of Labor, Health and Solidarity mentions in particular the difficulties encountered due to the numerus clausus. “This complicated situation [est] linked to choices made around thirty years ago with, at the time, a desire to limit the number of future doctors”she regrets.
