“We do not have the right to hold a referendum on the shared initiative on immigration”, assures the boss of the group Les Républicains (LR) in the National Assembly Olivier Marleix, guest Sunday May 7 of the program “Political Questions” on France Inter / franceinfo / Le Monde. The deputies Les Républicains Aurélien Pradié and Pierre-Henri Dumont call, in a column published that same day in the Journal du Dimanche, for a referendum of shared initiative (RIP) to put an end to family immigration suffered to switch to immigration job chosen and overqualified. For the leader of the LR deputies, “Jurisprudence says that we cannot make an RIP in this area”.

Olivier Marleix reiterated his intention to table a bill “by the end of May-beginning of June”, after the announcement of the postponement of the government bill announced by Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne, for lack of a majority. A text “infinitely wider than what the government is proposing”promised Olivier Marleix, adding that he did not want “give up” the subject of immigration at the National Rally.

A bill “at the same time”

Asked about the postponement to the fall of the immigration bill, the deputy for Eure-et-Loire considered that it was a bill “at the same time” across which “Mr. Darmanin made believe that he was going to be firm and on the other hand, we opened the floodgates of immigration by inventing a new residence permit for a job in tension”. The boss of the LR deputies reiterated the hostility of his camp about the possible regularization of certain employees in the sectors in tension: “We do not need this residence permit (…) in a country where there are still a certain number of unemployed people, RSA recipients. I think that there is something to be done to put all the world at work before resorting to this facility”he hammered.

Olivier Marleix was firm on the migration issue, speaking of a “social migration”. “I assume I am right that we are going into a wall with left-wing immigration policies”he assured. “Today the way in which social rights are open to foreigners arriving on our territory is much too broad, too flexible and therefore creates a real breath of fresh air”, he explained.
